Kuala Lumpur, 23 November 2017

ICCA China has announced the new lineup of the ICCA China Committee, who will take office for their one-year term on 1 December 2017. Ms. Connie Cheng, Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration, will serve as Chair, and the Co-Chair will be appointed by Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development at a later stage. The Committee comprises of 6 members: 2 Co-Chairs, 1 Secretary General, and 3 Committee Members who take on various roles.

Since its launch in 2010, the ICCA China Committee’s main aim has been to both promote and develop China as a major international business events destination.

"I am very appreciative of the opportunity to lead the ICCA China Committee," said Connie Cheng, Chair of the ICCA China Committee. "I look forward to working with our talented group to find new ways to get everyone engaged and initiate more programs that enhance the value of membership for ICCA members. Please join us in welcoming the new Committee members on board."

"I am excited to announce the appointments of the new committee lineup for the 2018 term," said Mr. Patrick Chen, Secretary General of the ICCA China Committee. "We are thankful to those who have put their names forward to share their time and expertise as voluntary leaders. We would also like to express our appreciation to the outgoing Committee members for their support and service to our business community."

The newly elected members of the ICCA China Committee will serve from 1 December 2017 to 31 December 2018.

“As of today, the country’s membership base has expanded to include 52 organisations, of which 40% fall under the Destination Marketing sector. This forms the largest portion of the China membership base”, said Noor Hamid, Regional Director Asia Pacific. “We believe that all cities play a crucial part in promoting China to aid it in becoming a superpower in the international meetings business. We at ICCA reiterate our support for the central role the Committee plays in achieving this, and look forward to working with the new Committee to carry out future programmes and activities for the benefit of our members.”

The ICCA China Committee was initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration as part of Shanghai’s strategic plan to bid for ICCA Congress 2013. First and foremost, its aim was to gather all ICCA members located in China under one roof to enhance cooperation among members for better engagement and involvement, which would then lead to a concerted effort to promote China as a meetings hub. The ICCA China Committee was appointed by mandate in September 2010 by the ICCA Board of Directors, based on the Local Host Committee of the ICCA Congress 2013, held in Shanghai, P.R. China.

As of today, ICCA China comprises 52 member companies and organisations, covering 18 cities: Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Danzhou, Foshan, Haikou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Yangzhou, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Tanzhou, Xiamen, Zhengzhou and Zhuhai. It is the largest membership base in the Asia Pacific Chapter, which consists of 16 countries and regions.
