To improve ExpoForum’s positioning among Russian and foreign venues, and to strengthen St. Petersburg’s status as the convention capital of Russia, ExpoForum International Ltd has entered into a partnership agreement with ICCA (the International Congress and Convention Association).

ExpoForum International, the company that manages two venues in St. Petersburg (Russia) – ExpoForum and LenExpo – became a member of ICCA (the International Congress and Convention Association) in 2011. In 2013, the ICCA Central European Chapter Summer Meeting took place in LenExpo – one of the venues operated by ExpoForum-International – where 80 experts from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Poland, Russia and other countries gathered together to discuss the prospects for the congress industry for the first time in St. Petersburg. The entering into a cooperation agreement served as the logical continuation in the development of the relationship between the two organisations. The status of the Association’s Partner within the Association Relations Partner program can help attract international rotating conventions to the venue. “ExpoForum is the most cutting-edge convention and exhibition centre in Europe, built in accordance with real-life market needs and specific event riders. Currently, it’s the only Russian complex built considering the best world practices and particularly for holding global congresses. It has already won the right to hold ten world rotating congresses up to 2023. Our goal is to host 5–6 events of this scale annually,” Sergey Voronkov, CEO of ExpoForum International, notes.

St. Petersburg is the second Russian city among the top 100 convention cities of the world. In 2018, the MICE market showed the following results: 5,000 business events, more than 800,000 business travellers. The number of tourists coming to St. Petersburg is growing every year. In 2017, we welcomed 7.5 million visitors, and in 2018, this figure grew to 8.2 million. Business tourism overall brings our city a total of RUB 42 billion every year.

At present, the congress and exhibition infrastructure of the city includes 480 facilities, including 12 congress and exhibition complexes and 120 congress hotels. ExpoForum International Ltd. controls 7% of the Russian market and more than 88% of St. Petersburg, and ExpoForum Congress and Exhibition Centre has been recognised as the most modern facility of its type in Europe. ExpoForum International is one of top five companies on Russia’s congress and exhibition market.

In 2018, the sites of the company held more than 200 events (40 of those – its own projects), including 80 exhibitions, 46 congresses and 75 events, attracted more than 10,000 exhibitors and 1.4 million visitors. The largest events include the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, the Russian International Energy Forum, the Russian Industrialist Forum, the Agrorus Exhibition, the Municipal Housing Complex of Russia Exhibition and Conference, Ecology of the Big City Forum, etc. Within the next four years, we will welcome more than 10 world congresses, including the Congress of the Federation of European Companion Veterinary Associations 2019, General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 2019, World Congress of Chefs 2020, World Rhinological Congress 2021, Euroskills Championship (Worldskills) 2022 and the World Energy Congress 2022.
